Zopi Guard ยท Windows Server

Stop password attacks before they get in.

Zopi Guard watches every login attempt on your Windows servers and blocks attackers at the firewall, automatically. We built it for the servers we look after. Now it can look after yours.

Watch it stop an attack.

This is the real Zopi Guard 1.18.0 dashboard, running in your browser on a pretend server thatโ€™s being attacked right now. Look around: the world map, blocked addresses, live sessions, health checks and Cyber Essentials. Then launch an attack and watch it get blocked.

A pretend server with sample data: every address is from a range reserved for examples. Nothing here touches a real server. Itโ€™s a desktop app, so itโ€™s easiest to explore on a bigger screen.

What it does

Every login attempt, watched.

Servers open to the internet get thousands of password guesses a day. Zopi Guard spots them as they happen, shuts the attacker out of the whole server, and tells you when something needs a person.

๐Ÿงฑ

Brute-force blocking

Reads the Windows Security log in real time and blocks an attacking IP in Windows Firewall after the number of failures you choose, first for a while, then for good.

๐Ÿงฉ

More than Remote Desktop

Also protects SQL Server, IIS (including Exchange ActiveSync, EWS and Autodiscover), OpenSSH and FTP. A blocked IP is shut out of the whole server, not just the service it attacked.

๐ŸŒ

Zopi threat network

An attacker seen at two or more organisations is blocked on every Zopi Guard server. The shared list is signed by Zopi and checked, and usernames are never sent.

๐Ÿšจ

Break-in alerts

An email when an account signs in from a country it has never used, or straight after a run of failures that looks like a guessed password. It can end that session for you.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Country allow list

Only allow Remote Desktop from the countries you choose. It never locks out your allowed IPs or anyone connected right now, and warns you before you lock yourself out.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ

Your own people stay in

Anyone who has signed in successfully is trusted for a while, so one phone with an old password canโ€™t get a whole office blocked. Typos weeks apart never add up to a block.

๐Ÿฉบ

Health and Cyber Essentials

Checks the server against the five Cyber Essentials controls, with a plain-English fix for anything that would fail. One-click fixes explain what they change and ask first.

๐Ÿ“Š

Monthly security report

Emailed on the 1st: the monthโ€™s attacks, blocks, countries, break-in alerts and Cyber Essentials readiness. Ready to share with an insurer or auditor.

๐Ÿ”„

Signed automatic updates

Updates itself from Zopi, even when nobody is signed in. Every update is signed and checked, and only installs when the server is quiet or in your maintenance window.

Licensing

Simple, per server.

Zopi Guard
ยฃ5 per server a month, excluding VAT
Free for Zopi managed IT support customers
  • 30-day free trial on every new install, with no card
  • Your licence key is in the Zopi client portal
  • 14 daysโ€™ grace and a warning if a licence lapses

Install it

Every new install protects the server from the moment it starts, on a 30-day free trial. No key, no card.

Add your key

Each server uses one licence seat, at ยฃ5 a month, or free with Zopi IT support. Your key is in the Zopi client portal, and silent installs can include it.

Stay protected

The licence checks in once a day. If it lapses you get 14 daysโ€™ grace and a warning, and IPs already blocked always stay blocked.

Requirements

What you need.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ

Windows Server

2016, 2019, 2022 or 2025, 64-bit. Remote Desktop, SQL Server, IIS, OpenSSH and IIS FTP are all covered where theyโ€™re installed.

๐Ÿ”ฅ

Windows Firewall on

Zopi Guard blocks attackers with Windows Defender Firewall rules, so the firewall needs to be switched on.

๐Ÿ”‘

Administrator rights

To install. After that it runs as a Windows service under SYSTEM and protects the server before anyone signs in.

๐ŸŒ

Outbound HTTPS

Port 443 to zopi.uk and updates.zopi.uk, for the licence check-in, the threat network and updates.

v1.19.0LATEST15 October 2026
โ€ข Blocked IPs: "Unblock all" removes every block from the firewall in one go and resets those IPs' failed-login counts โ€” it asks first, says how many will go, and is logged with the Windows user who did it. Threat network IPs are not affected
Deployment guide

Up and running in minutes.

Everything you need to install Zopi Guard on a server, roll it out across several, and keep it running.

Before you start

  • A 64-bit Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 or 2025 machine, signed in with an administrator account.
  • Windows Defender Firewall switched on. Zopi Guard blocks attackers with firewall rules, so it can't protect a server whose firewall is off.
  • Outbound HTTPS (port 443) to zopi.uk and updates.zopi.uk, for the licence check-in, the threat network and automatic updates.
  • A licence key in the form ZG-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, if you have one. Without a key, every new install starts a 30-day free trial on its own.
  • A second way in, such as the hypervisor console or an out-of-band connection, in case you need to unblock yourself while you get the settings right.

Install on a server

  1. Copy Zopi Guard Setup X.Y.Z.exe to the server.
  2. Right-click it and choose Run as administrator. Zopi Guard installs for all users under Program Files.
  3. The installer registers and starts the ZopiGuard Windows service ("Zopi Guard RDP Protection"). Protection starts straight away: there's no reboot, and the service runs as SYSTEM, so it protects the server even when nobody is signed in.
  4. Open Zopi Guard from the Start menu or desktop. On first run it finds this server's own network and public addresses and adds them to Allowed IPs.
  5. Check the status strip on the dashboard shows protection, the licence and the service as running.
Upgrading? Run the new installer over the top. It stops the service, updates it and starts it again. Your settings, history and blocked IPs are kept.

Add your licence key

New installs protect the server on a 30-day trial straight away. To use your licence instead, open Settings โ†’ Licence, enter your key and click Activate. Your key is in the Zopi client portal, or ask us on connect@zopi.uk.

Each server uses one seat. Reinstalling Zopi Guard on the same server reuses its seat rather than taking another.

Silent install (RMM or script)

Run the installer elevated, as SYSTEM or an administrator, with /S for a silent install. Add the licence key to activate it in the same step:

"Zopi Guard Setup X.Y.Z.exe" /S /LICENCE=ZG-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

The key is handed to the service, which activates it when it starts and then deletes the copy it was given. Leave out /LICENCE= to start on the trial.

Settings to check after installing

  • Allowed IPs: add your office, VPN and management addresses. One IP or CIDR range per line, for example 192.168.1.0/24. Allowed IPs are never blocked, whatever they do.
  • Blocking: how many failed attempts lead to a temporary or permanent block, and how long a successful login keeps an IP trusted.
  • Protected services: Remote Desktop is always covered. Zopi Guard also shows which of SQL Server, IIS (including Exchange), OpenSSH and IIS FTP are on the server, and you can switch each one off.
  • Email alerts: set who is told about permanent blocks, break-ins and health problems.
  • Break-in alerts and Countries: alerts for a login from a new country, and the option to only allow Remote Desktop from the countries you choose.
  • Threat network: how the shared blocklist is used (on first attempt, in advance, or off) and whether this server shares attack data with Zopi. Usernames are never sent.
  • Updates: automatic installs on or off, a maintenance window, and the stable or beta channel. Use stable on client servers.

Then open the Security health page. It checks the server against good practice and the Cyber Essentials controls, and the one-click fixes explain what they change and ask before doing anything.

Updates

From version 1.10.0, the service checks updates.zopi.uk every few hours. Every update is signed by Zopi and checked before it installs. It waits until there have been no failed logins for five minutes and, if you've set one, until the maintenance window. Firewall blocks stay in place throughout; only new detections pause, for a few seconds.

The result is written to the Windows event log as UPDATED or UPDATE FAILED. Servers on a version older than 1.10.0 need one manual install of the latest version, after which they update themselves.

If a licence lapses

  • The licence checks in with Zopi once a day.
  • If it can't, or the licence isn't renewed, protection carries on for 14 days. The app and an email warn you for the last 7.
  • After that, Zopi Guard stops detecting and blocking new attacks. IPs already blocked stay blocked.
  • Entering a valid key at any point restores protection straight away.

Moving or removing Zopi Guard

  • Moving to a new server: open Settings โ†’ Licence and choose Remove licence from this server to free the seat, then activate the key on the new server.
  • Uninstalling: remove Zopi Guard from Apps (or Programs and Features) in Windows. The service is stopped and removed with the app.

Troubleshooting

  • Is the service running? Run sc query ZopiGuard in an administrator command prompt, or open Settings โ†’ Windows Service in the app.
  • Logs: the service writes to C:\ProgramData\ZopiGuard\service.log. The app's Logs page shows the same events.
  • Someone has been blocked who shouldn't be: open Blocked IPs and unblock them, then add their address to Allowed IPs. IPs tagged Known login have signed in successfully before, so are usually your own users. Don't delete the ZopiGuard_Block_ firewall rules by hand: Zopi Guard rebuilds them from its own list every 30 minutes.
  • Still stuck? Call us on 0204 502 1288 or email connect@zopi.uk.
