Fine wine storage

A website and online cellar for a fine wine storage business

A refined new website for The Wine Tunnels, with a secure client account where collectors see every case they hold in bond, follow valuations and ask for deliveries online.

The challenge

The Wine Tunnels stores collectors' wines and spirits in bond at London City Bond Dinton Woods, a 1936 government bonded warehouse in Wiltshire. It's a specialist service: duty and VAT stay suspended, and every case is logged against the owner by its rotation number.

They needed a website that explains all of this simply to collectors, investors and enthusiasts, and that earns their trust straight away. They also wanted to give each client a clear view of their own cellar without having to phone or email for it.

What we did

We designed and built a site with the calm, considered feel of a fine wine merchant:

  • Clear pages for each service: storage, delivery, valuations, charges and the story of the site at Dinton Woods
  • Charges published up front, so new clients know what to expect before they call
  • "From merchant to vault, in four steps": a simple explanation of opening an account, shipping cases and how each one is logged
  • A secure online account where clients see every case by rotation number, follow current market valuations, request deliveries, transfers and condition reports, and download their invoices and statements
  • Hosted on its own Zopi VPS, with HTTPS, backups and monitoring, and full admin and SSH access for The Wine Tunnels’ team

The results

The Wine Tunnels now has a website that explains bonded storage in plain English and puts its prices on the page. Every client also gets an online account with their cellar, valuations and paperwork in one place, available whenever they need it.
